Project Director (Additional Secretary) Export Competitiveness for Jobs (EC4J)

Message

I am pleased to announce that the Export Competitiveness for Jobs (EC4J) project is committed to implementing strategic market linkage programs to enhance the export potential of Bangladesh's key products. As a flagship initiative by the Ministry of Commerce in collaboration with the World Bank, the EC4J project serves as a catalyst for advancing trade competitiveness, driving foreign investment, creating employment opportunities, and establishing Bangladesh as a premier global sourcing hub.

As the Project Director, I am pleased to share insights into this transformative initiative, which aims to expand Bangladesh's export diversity while creating substantial employment opportunities across the leather, footwear, light engineering, MPPE, and plastics sectors.

Implementing a project of this scale and ambition comes with its share of challenges. These industries grapple with structural limitations, including outdated infrastructure, restricted access to global markets, and gaps in productivity and technology adoption. Moreover, aligning with rapidly evolving international environmental and social standards presents a significant hurdle, requiring substantial adaptation by local industries. Additionally, capacity-building efforts necessitate a strong commitment from stakeholders to drive change and invest in sustainable, long-term growth.

Despite these challenges, the EC4J project is well-equipped to deliver significant benefits. Through the Public Investment Facility for Infrastructure Constraints (PIFIC), it addresses critical infrastructure needs, providing industries with essential physical and logistical support. Market access initiatives and productivity programs enable businesses to compete globally by enhancing efficiency and product quality. Additionally, the project promotes strong environmental and social governance, ensuring Bangladesh’s industries are both competitive and sustainable.

The EC4J project supports Bangladesh's vision of a resilient, diversified economy by driving economic growth, creating jobs, and improving livelihoods. It positions the country as a leader in emerging export sectors, fostering a more inclusive future.

I urge all stakeholders—industry leaders, policymakers, development partners, and workforce representatives—to remain actively involved in this collaborative initiative. By addressing challenges and leveraging EC4J's opportunities, we can drive sustainable growth and long-term benefits.

Thank you for your continued trust and partnership in building a competitive and sustainable future for Bangladesh.

Wishing all exhibitors a successful and rewarding experience at the expos.
